Title:  A Brief History of JavaScript

Abstract:  I created JavaScript (JS) in a big hurry at Netscape in May, 1995. It was standardized as ECMAScript in September, 1997. Since then JS has evolved through four editions of the specification into the most-used programming language on the Internet. It has spawned WebAssembly as a second input language to the same standardized and multiply/interoperably implemented virtual machine. I will review how all this came about and where it is going.

Biography:  Brendan Eich is the co-founder and CEO of Brave Software (https://brave.com/), a start-up that aims to transform the online ad ecosystem with faster and safer browsing, as well as micropayments and better ads to give users and publishers a better deal. Eich previously served as CTO, then CEO of the Mozilla Corporation. Prior to that, he co-founded the Mozilla project and foundation. While at Mozilla, Eich helped launch the award-winning Firefox web browser. Eich is also the inventor of JavaScript, the Internet's most widely used programming language.
