Your initial computing account at IU will be created through University Information Technology Services (UITS) account creation interface: https://itaccounts.iu.edu.  There is a very good reference in the UITS Knowledge Base that describes the process: http://kb.iu.edu/data/achn.html. This interface allows users to create accounts on a variety of University systems. If you are having problems with your accounts take a look at this SoIC Knowledge Base article on troubleshooting the issue: Account and Email Problem Debugging Flowchart.

Computer Lifecycle Policy

Upon your arrival, the School of Informatics and Computing provides faculty and staff with one new computer to be used as your primary workstation, these machines are replaced every 3 years through the SoIC Lifecycle Policy.  You must choose from the list of standard configuration systems noted in the table on that policy page. The choices of machines for your primary desktop are limited to these machines due to several factors; all machines must be ordered by SoIC authorized purchasers from approved vendors that have negotiated contracts with IU (to be compliant IU purchasing policy), to insure that the IT staff can support and stock parts for these models, and to facilitate re-use of machines for a variety of uses after they have been life-cycled.
