Note

This wiki site for the Digital Library Federation Aquifer project is hosted by the Indiana University Libraries for historical purposes. The DLF Aquifer project ran from 2003-2009 and created a web site known as American Social History Online, later American History Online. That website is no longer available.

The DLF Aquifer initiative is pleased to share with the digital library research community various products of our work that we believe will have use outside the project:

  • Developing schemas, protocols and communities of practice to make digital content available to scholars and students where they do their work
  • Developing the best possible systems for finding, identifying and using digital resources in context by:
    • promoting digital library best practices and
    • developing tools and services to improve digital resource access and use.

The Digital Library Federation (DLF) tested a model for transitioning products and services from development to sustainability with DLF Aquifer. The attached prospectus describes Aquifer products and services. A transition is now in process for American Social History Online software and services to be sustained at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. As the Digital Library Federation itself is folded in to the Council on Library and Information Resources, other elements of the DLF Aquifer community may be integrated into the CLIR program.
